Day 5. What did I do today to work toward The October Project goals?
I ran 3.1 miles (on trails!), this time without wiping out. One of my five goals for the month complete!
I rebranded my current food-related Substack newsletter as my old beloved blog. You can find it at daintydot.substack.com.
I republished an old Dainty Dot post on the Substack site. I’m blending old and new content for the next few months. So, whew. That’s what I have been wanting to do for months.
Pssst. You’re going to reallllly like it, so read it and subscribe please?
Here’s the thing, though. Turning my old blog into my new Substack isn’t The October Project. It’s a goal for the month, but it’s not the project of a lifetime dream.
Here’s the big reveal:
The October Project is writing a book. A cookbook that’s a memoir. Or is it more of a memoir that is a cookbook?
Whatever it is, I wrote a chapter for it today. Two, in fact. Here's the thing that is becoming clear as the many months of muddy water settle during the days of October: What I have been writing isn’t wonderful. It’s not going to be a product I hold up as my lifetime achievement.
It’s practice.
That is, I have a long way to go. Not to finish this, oh no. I’ll finish this within the month of October for sure. What I mean by having a long way to go is that what I am writing now is more a product of self-therapy, letting the muddy waters settle as I said. It’s what comes next that’ll get me on the road to what I want to contribute to the world.
You know how when you start to pedal a bike, there are maybe a half-dozen or more rotations of the pedals that you need to slog through to overcome inertia, to get the wheels rolling? This is what I’m doing now.
Thank you for joining me for the ride.
Your Turn
Is there anyone reading this that is working toward their own October Project, too? Weigh in with how it’s going!
Nope! I’m a tired n weary can do gal who does it all. Full time Grower manager February through August at local garden center. But my “real” job is year round management of my sister’s veterinary clinic. I dream of an October where this 60+ year old can take the month to figure out how she can contribute to the world. As a teenager I aspired to solve the worlds food supply problems…..hence a degree in agronomy/ horticulture but life took turns away from that dream.
